MY STORY
Since 2009, Meghan has been involved in over 30 theatrical productions, as well as multiple film and television productions, but her love for bringing stories to life started when she was young.
Ever since I was little, I remember loving the idea of play and imagination. My sister and I would run around outside for hours at a time in my childhood, just creating different stories and characters to become. I loved movies like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Scrooge! (1970), Mary Poppins, and Fiddler on the Roof, which I think is definitely evident in my extensive musical theater background. When I turned 9, I was determined to make the world my stage. The first show I was ever in was a production called The Christmas Doll based on a book by Elvira Woodruff (who I got to meet at one of my performances) about two sisters who had been orphaned in 1800s London. I still remember getting the call saying I had been cast on my mom’s old track phone.
As I moved through my undergraduate career I became more and more taken with Shakespearean texts, as well as more contemporary pieces and straight plays. I loved Kenneth Branagh’s 1996 version of Hamlet, Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage, and of course the larger than life Angels in America written by Tony Kushner. I was introduced to Sir Ian McKellen’s Edward II at 20 years old, and then 2 years later, I saw him live as I was performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He starred in an adaptation of Hamlet, which had become my favorite Shakespearean piece.
As I grew older my love of stories only grew. At 9 years old, I read Pride and Prejudice, and continually watched the BBC miniseries, which then launched me into my love of the movie The King’s Speech, and then later into blockbuster franchise movies. I love world-building, and movies allowed me to start to see myself onscreen in the characters depicted by iconic actors that I to this day admire greatly.
Some of my favorite shows and movies are Fleabag, Modern Family, Brooklyn 99, Euphoria, Jane Eyre (2006), Dopesick, Succession, The Last of Us, The Dark Knight, Saltburn, Promising Young Woman, The Road Within, Leave the World Behind, and Night at the Museum (a classic). I try to watch new shows and films as much as I can, so please feel free to recommend any stories that altered your brain chemistry in the best way :)
